One often wonders about the social utility of art, how one can convey a thought in support of a humanitarian cause through artistic languages. A meeting and discussion between Gianluca Costantini and students to have the opportunity to meet someone who puts his art on the line daily in support of human rights.
Gianluca Costantini has dedicated his art to human rights since 2004. He has published graphic-novels in Italy, Spain and France. In 2018 he published illustrations for CNN. From 2016 to 2020 he accompanied the activities of Democracy in Europe Movement 2025, and actively collaborated with Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei. His illustrations have been used during the HRW Film Festival in London and Toronto, the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy the Fifdh Festival of Human Rights in Geneva, the Milan Human Rights Festival, and the Internazionale Festival in Ferrara. In 2016 he was accused of terrorism by the Turkish government for his drawings. His are the world-renowned drawings depicting Patrick Zaki, about whom he has produced a graphic novel, together with Laura Cappon, "Patrick Zaki. An Egyptian Story" for Feltrinelli Comics.
